As people get old, a certain part of their intelligence seems to vanish. There are many different stages of intelligence. Being able to do just everyday things, and all the things we've learned throughout our whole life will diminish with age and sometimes intelligence will stay stable. If you read a lot and exercise your brain to its full potential, you will keep most of your intelligence and it will not diminish as it would in those people who do not exercise their brain.
A person's reaction time becomes slower with age. An elderly person does not react as quickly to things as a younger person would. They don't make good decisions as a younger person would either. In addition don't think like they used too. Wisdom is the knowledge a person gains over the years and how it's practiced and used. People over the age of fifty are considered to be the wise ones. How a person uses their knowledge when they get old is considered a part of exercising the brain.
Keeping in touch with what they've learned over the years of life seems to be very beneficial. Dependency is another issue that older people don't like to use but it's important for the elderly to feel that it's completely okay to depend on others. How well their able to adapt to this plays a role in dependence as well.
Signs of successful aging include the ability to do well with uncertainty, a strong support system such as friends, family, etc. and living a healthy life style. By maintaining a proper diet with exercise we will have control over in our life. Walking seems to be the best form of exercise for older people because there's nothing strenuous about it. Polluting our bodies is another factor that we have to consider. Pollutants are not good and if we want to live a longer, healthier life we have to stay away from the things that will harm our bodies.
Of course have faith in our Mighty GOD is amongst them all. A person has to take care of themselves and avoid the things that harm their bodies. It's inevitable that we the people grow old and that we must make the best of our lifestyle in order to live that healthy long life and to age successful.
